East Palo Alto Phoenix Academy Palo Alto, CA
Aspire Public Schools
The new Phoenix Academy was being permitted through the Division of the State Architect (DSA), utilizing a pre-approved 2-story PC modular construction system. To complete the project as expediently as possible, K2A utilized a 2-Phase permitting process; Phase 1 to include site and grading permits, and Phase 2 building permits. Pacific Charter School Development (PCSD) is developed by the school, whose daily operations are run by Aspire Public Schools. The 2.7 acre site design includes 18 classrooms, 2 science labs, faculty workspaces, administrative offices, and support spaces. The design maximizes efficiency with two-story modular buildings, connected by exterior walkways for circulation.
The new site allowed for an expansion of the academic program to include a middle school component, as well as increase the student population from its former capacity of 138 to ultimately accommodate 406 students in grades 6-12.
K2A provided architectural services for the next phase of the expansion of this K-12 campus, which included a spacious multi-purpose/gymnasium facility that will serve the physical education curriculum, function as the school’s cafeteria, and offer a gathering place for school events.
