San Francisco Unified School District

K2A completed a $15 million modernization of a 132,000 sf, 1930 art deco campus, serving 1,200 students in grades 6-8, for San Francisco Unified School District. The project included accessibility and life safety upgrades, as well as improvements to classrooms, choral, orchestra, band, and dance rooms, cafeteria, gym and locker rooms, counseling offices, and other support spaces.

K2A completed a previous phase of modernization for the same campus in 2002 that addressed the steeply sloping site which caused many level changes on the main academic wing’s three floors. These level changes required creative ADA upgraded solutions, negotiated with the Division of State Architect. Also in that phase, K2A converted an outdated industrial-arts wing into six new science laboratories.
